Hello my friend, This is Maggie from Dawa Magnet. Currently I am at the airport of Ho Chi Ming City of Vietnam just after a trade fair, heading back to China. Recently a client told me that his NdFeB magnets with zinc coating suffered from corrosion and demagnetization and he asked us whether there’s anything we can do.
Of course and here are some tips!
1. Improve coating thickness
The first thing is that you may consider improving the coating thickness. Normally for zinc coating the thickness is around 5-10μm, but we can make it to 15-20μm. The thicker the coating is, the better protection effects.
2. Chang the magnet design
Also you may consider changing the magnet design. For example, try avoiding sharp corners and edges, because the coating there wears off pretty quickly.
3. Consider nickel or epoxy coatings
If that is still not enough, then you may have to consider changing the coating, from zinc to nickel or even epoxy. Because overall zinc is a common and cost-effective way to protect NdFeB magnet, but its protection effect can be limited.
